CRYSTAL LAKE – The Crystal Lake Police Department will have two campaigns the next two weekends including a crackdown on drunken drivers and seat-belt violators during Super Bowl weekend.

Police officials announced the department would participate in a statewide effort to aggressively enforce vehicle code violations including drunken driving, speeding, cellphone use and unbuckled drivers and passengers. The increased patrol will last from Friday through Sunday.

The department also will host a child seat safety event from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 8 at Pauly Toyota, 1035 Route 31, Crystal Lake. Child seat safety technicians will be on hand to educate and assist parents with proper use and installation of child seats and answer any questions parents may have.

No registration or appointment is necessary, but organizers ask caregivers to bring the child, seat, vehicle and manual so proper installation can be demonstrated.
