CRYSTAL LAKE – Those considering a career in the home inspection field can learn the necessary skills and prepare for the state licensing exam in a 60-hour Home Inspection Pre-Licensing course offered by McHenry County College’s Continuing Education Department.

The next class will be from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday nights from Feb. 18 to May 15 at MCC, 8900 Route 14 in Crystal Lake.

This training course will prepare future home inspectors for the state licensing examination. Areas from exteriors to electric to heating and many other topics related to home inspections will be covered. People who have knowledge in the building trades from remodeling, home handymen, contractors, firefighters and tradesmen are good candidates for this course.

Participants can start their own business or work in the field part time to earn extra income. Many home inspectors use computer software and digital cameras to generate their reports, so computer skills may be helpful, but are not required. Other aspects of the home inspection business, including marketing and business startup, also are covered.

This course is approved by the Office of Banks and Real Estate and prepares students for the Illinois state exam.

Books and materials are included in the $895 course fee. Students should report to Room E217 on Tuesdays and Room E104 on Thursdays.

To register for the class, call the MCC Registration Office at 815-455-8588 and reference course ID: URE U04-003. For information, contact Ruth Kormanak at 815-479-7879 or rkormanak@mchenry.edu.
