Bates: State of McHenry luncheon to present city’s vision for commercial development

The McHenry Area Chamber will host the “State of McHenry” Mayoral Luncheon from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Feb. 26 at the McHenry Country Club. Mayor Sue Low will discuss the city’s accomplishments during 2013 and detail McHenry’s vision for 2014. Those interested in infrastructure issues, commercial development and McHenry’s RiverWalk should plan to attend. Register at www.mchenrychamber.com. The cost is $25 a person for members and $30 for nonmembers. Tables for eight people cost $175.

The McHenry Area Chamber’s next luncheon is just made for those who eat lunch alone. Called “Never Eat Alone,” this luncheon will be at 11:45 a.m. Feb. 21 at Buddyz. For $12, which includes tax, tip and non-alcoholic beverage, attendees will enjoy the all-you-can-eat pizza, pasta and salad buffet while connecting with others. New to Networking? Learn “How to Work a Mixer” at our next Networking Tips and Tools event. Feeling overwhelmed or intimidated walking into a crowd? Want to know how to walk in, meet who you want to meet and walk out with some valuable connections? Take a step closer to becoming a networking professional with this event. It will be at 7:30 a.m. Feb. 28 in the chamber office. Presenters are top networkers Tim Stewart, an executive leadership coach, and Frank Hosticka, of LeagalShield. The McHenry Area Chamber’s “Life is a Journey” Expo is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 15 at McHenry High School West Campus. It is sponsored by Bjorkman’s Ace Hardware, Centegra Health System and the Northwest Herald. “Life is a Journey” is  an expo within an expo, featuring color-coded rows such as Leisure Lane, Senior Street, Pet Parkway, Health & Fitness Fairway, Financial Frontage, Woman’s Walkway, Children’s Court, Home Highway and Automotive Avenue. It will feature inflatables, The Coupon Queen, an exotic animal show, Flatland Bikes Stunt Show, and entertainment by Mike’s Brass and Woodwind.

The chamber’s Spring Networking Scramble will be April 25 at McHenry Country Club. Registration is from 11 to 11:45 a.m. and the Lunch Scramble is from 11:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. It is sponsored by Centegra Health System. The scramble is simply speed dating for businesses with a three-course luncheon.

The event costs $25 for members and $40 for nonmembers. Those who invite a business that is not a chamber member can attend for $20 each. Register at www.mchenryscramble.com.
