Spring Grove to use salt-sand mix

Published: Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014 11:38 a.m. CDT

SPRING GROVE – The village's salt supplies are dwindling.

To make sure its remaining supply lasts the rest of the season, its public works department will begin using a 50-50 salt and sand mix, according to an alert sent to residents.

The village will hit critical areas, including hills, curves and intersections, first, and then after the snow stops, all the roads will be salted. Some subdivisions may see a reduction in how much salt is applied.

The alert also warned drivers to slow down, allow extra space between vehicles and use extra caution at intersections and on hills and bridges. Drivers were also advised to stay a minimum of 75 feet behind snowplow trucks and to not pass them.
