One DUI arrest during LITH Super Bowl enforcement
LAKE IN THE HILLS – One person was charged with driving under the influence during Lake in the Hills’ extra traffic enforcement around the Super Bowl.
Between Jan. 31 and Feb. 2, the village’s police department conducted extra enforcement for its Super Bowl campaign.
“Lake in the Hills police and other local agencies conducted additional enforcement efforts to remove the dangers of impaired motorists from the roadway,” said Sgt. Eric Decker, supervisor of the Lake in the Hills Police Traffic Unit.
During the enforcement campaign, officers stopped 60 motorists for violations of the state vehicle code. One person was charged with driving under the influence and 49 citations were issued.
Money for the additional enforcement came from a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Lake in the Hills police will conduct its next enforcement campaign between March 13 and March 17 for St. Patrick’s Day.
“We urge motorists to buckle up, drive sober, watch their speed and report any impaired motorists to law enforcement,” said James Wales, director of Police and Public Safety. “The only way to enjoy the holiday is to make it safely to your destination.”
