McHenry County Treasurer (Republican): Miller
Voters have a tough choice when deciding how to cast their ballot in the race for the Republican nomination for McHenry County treasurer, and that’s a good thing.
Longtime Treasurer Bill LeFew is retiring. Hoping to succeed him are his chief deputy for the past 17 years, Glenda Miller, and Crystal Lake City Councilman Jeffrey Thorsen, a local banker.
Miller said she is committed to upgrading the treasurer’s office’s technology, and to making the office more transparent. She said she is examining how other counties and the state comptroller’s office are making more information accessible online, and plans to follow suit. Miller also said she plans to expand the office’s outreach efforts, to make sure taxpayers are aware of what exemptions they qualify for.
Thorsen also wants to improve customer service and transparency. A banker by profession, he said he would reduce staffing at the office by one through attrition.
Miller largely has been running the office during her time as chief deputy. She knows the job and would ensure a smooth transition. We recommend Miller.
