Auburn knocks Huntley out of sectional again

ELGIN – Huntley knew what was coming, but still could not handle the speed and pressure defense of Auburn.

The Red Raiders committed 15 first-half turnovers and Auburn hit 11 3-pointers for a 61-49 vicory Tuesday in a Class 4A Elgin Sectional semifinal at Chesbrough Field House.

Laytwan Porter and Zavious Hoover each scored 12 points, while Nylek Cobb and Malik Minor added 10 points each. Auburn (26-5) advances to Friday’s 7 p.m. championship game against the winner between Jacobs (18-13) and South Elgin (17-14), which play at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the other semifinal.

Huntley’s 6-foot-8 senior Amanze Egekeze wrapped up his standout career with 15 points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots. Egekeze’s last basket of his career came on a dunk with 1:00 remaining.

The Raiders (21-8) were playing in their third sectional in four years, with Auburn knocking them out each time.
