Anderson takes 14th Congressional

Dennis Anderson on Tuesday defeated newcomer John Hosta in the Democratic 14th Congressional District primary.

Anderson led with about 65 percent of the vote in most precincts, compared to Hosta’s 35 percent, according to unofficial election results.

The victory sets up a rematch between Anderson and incumbent Rep. Randy Hultgren, R-Winfield, who defeated him for re-election in 2012.

“I think that by and large it was a matter of [my] breadth of issue recognition and understanding,” Anderson said, speaking from his election night party at Rookie’s in Huntley. “I think John had some very good points to make about trades and tariff issues, but it was a singular issue, and I think that made a difference.”
