Prep roundup: Hampshire softball wins over Elgin

Sara Finn went 2 for 4 including a double and a triple to lead Hampshire to a 15-4 five-inning win over Elgin at the Dome in Rosemont.

Finn also scored three runs for the Whip-Purs (2-2). Teammate Haley Widmayer earned the win after throwing all five innings, allowing just two hits while striking out 12.

Lakes 12, Woodstock North 1: At Rosemont, Rachel Vela went 2 for 3 at the plate for Woodstock North while teammate Sierra Meiners had the only RBI in the loss.

The Thunder (0-1) jumped out to a 1-0 lead before allowing nine unearned runs on eight errors in the five-inning loss at the Dome in Rosemont.

BASEBALL

Brother Rice 2, Huntley 0: At Elmhurst, Matt Sullivan and Jon Nugent each hit a double for Huntley (1-1) but the Red Raiders couldn't push across a run. 

Nick Costantino started for Huntley and moved to 0-1 on the season. He allowed two hits and an earned run while striking out five, in five innings of work.

Glenbrook South 16, Dundee-Crown 2: At Jacksonville, Ill., Tyler Lewan hit a double and teammates Nick Munson and Fabian Gutierrez each had one RBI for Dundee-Crown in the five-inning loss.

Jason Vincolese was hit with the loss after allowing six runs on eight hits in two innings.

Barrington 6, Dundee-Crown 4: At Jacksonville, Ill., Tyler Lewan hit a home run and a double and had three RBIs for the Chargers in the loss. Teammate Mark Waldron hit an RBI double.

Jacobs 15, Rantoul 4: At Marion, the Golden Eagles trailed 3-1 after three innings but exploded for seven runs in each of the next two to win in five innings.

Grant Kale had four RBIs for Jacobs and hit two triples in the win.

Palatine 4, Jacobs 3: At Jacksonville, Ill., Jacobs had 11 hits but only pushed across three runs in the eight-inning loss. Matt Kozlak went 3 for 4 with a triple while teammate Jake Jemmi had two RBIs and a double.

Tyler Jones allowed a run in the bottom half of the eighth and took the loss for the Golden Eagles.
