WOODSTOCK – High schoolers planning to study the environment during college can apply for a $1,000 boost to help them do so.

The Environmental Defenders of McHenry County are offering a $1,000 scholarship to an outstanding high school senior who is planning to pursue a career directly related to environmental studies, according to a news release from the organization.

Applicants – who must live in McHenry County and attend one of its high schools – can apply online at http://www.mcdef.org/Community_scholarship.htm or at the Defenders' office, 110 S. Johnson St., Suite 106, Woodstock.

Those seeking the scholarship should have a respectable GPA, two letters of recommendation and be planning to go to an accredited college or university, the release said.

Applications are due April 25.
