Fire in Crystal Lake contained to garage

Crews survey a fire that appears to have started Friday afternoon in a garage in the 600 block of Nottingham Lane in Crystal Lake. The fire was contained to the garage with minimal damage to the house, according to Crystal Lake Fire Battalion Chief Thomas Pollnow.

A fire that started Friday afternoon in a garage at 650 Nottingham Lane in Crystal Lake was contained to the garage with minimal damage to the house, according to Crystal Lake Fire Battalion Chief Thomas Pollnow.

Units first arrive at 3:08 p.m. and reported heavy fire and smoke. The fire appears to have started on the exterior of the garage in the back of the residence, according to a press release.

A MABAS alarm was requested for additional assistance as the heat started to melt the siding of the house next to the garage involved in the fire. The fire was declared under control at 3:18 p.m.

There were no injuries to any civilians or firefighters.

The cause of the fire is unknown and is under investigation by the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department.

The house remains habitable. Initial damage estimates are $20,000 and the residence next door sustained $1000 worth of damage to its siding.

Fire department from Algonquin, Huntley, McHenry, Nunda Rural, Cary, Lakewood, East Dundee, Fox River Grove and Wonder Lake assisted.
