An inch of snow possible Monday evening

After a long overdue string of spring-like days, McHenry County is expected to see another burst of winter weather Monday afternoon.

The area could see an inch or more of snow beginning late this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

Rain is likely to start late this afternoon and transition into snow that will persist into mid evening. There is a potential for modest snowfall rates at times, and it could produce minor accumulation up to an inch or just more than one inch in some areas, the weather service said.

Whlie accumulation will mostly be on grassy surfaces, some slushy accumulation on the roads is possible.

Because of the potential for snow accumulation and reduced visibility, motorists are encouraged to use caution during the evening commute.
