CRYSTAL LAKE – A 20-year-old man has been charged with criminal trespass to a residence after he broke into two houses Saturday, police said in a news release.

Erasmo William Herrera, of Franklin, Wis., entered a house at 3:44 a.m. on the 200 block of McHenry Avenue and engaged in a brief struggle with the residents, police said.

Herrera fled from the house, attempted to force his way into another house but failed, police said. He then entered a third house through an unlocked front door, and exited through the back door. Herrera was found in the backyard of the third house and taken into custody, police said.

There was significant damage within the first house and injuries to the residents, who were treated and released at the scene.

Herrera was charged with two counts of criminal trespass to a residence, felony criminal damage to property, battery, and misdemeanor criminal damage to property.

According to the news release, Herrera is free on $15,000 bond.
