Prep Roundup: R-B soccer gets BNC win

With a little over a week to think about a loss to Rockford Christian on April 7, the Richmond-Burton girls soccer team came out ready for revenge on Tuesday.

After a scoreless first half, the Rockets gave up a second half goal to the Royal Lions but came back to get a 2-1 Big Northern Conference East Division win.    

"We're proud of the way they bounced back," Rockets coach Chris Wagner said. "They came back at them and pushed and pushed and pushed."

Jessica Guenther scored both goals for R-B (5-1, 4-1 BNC East) on assists from Cassie Owen and Halley Havlicek. Hannah Koenig had three saves in goal for the Rockets.   

Woodstock 3, Dundee-Crown 0: At Carpentersville, Allie Behrens scored two goals for the Blue Streaks (5-1) in a Fox Valley Conference crossover shutout. Melissa Krueger made seven saves in goal for Woodstock, which recorded its fourth shutout of the season. 

Isabel Miranda had seven saves in goal for the Chargers (2-3-1). 

Crystal Lake South 2, Grayslake North 1: At Crystal Lake, Brandie Minogue and Audrey Collard scored second half goals for the Gators (3-2) in an FVC crossover win.

Huntley 2, Lake Zurich 0: At Huntley, Kaitlin Costantino and Sam Bessey scored first half goals for the Red Raiders (9-2) in a nonconference win. Jessica Galason made four saves in goal for Huntley.

Belvidere North 7, Woodstock North 0: At Woodstock, Shanen Laabs made 21 saves in goal for the Thunder (0-7) in a nonconference loss.

Cary-Grove 5, Hampshire 0: At Cary, Carli Petersen and Jenni Phillips both scored two goals for the Trojans in an FVC crossover win against the Whip-Purs (1-3).

Also for C-G (5-3-1), Kate Michie scored and Genna Sobieszczyk had two assists.

SOFTBALL

Grayslake Central 11, Prairie Ridge 7: At Crystal Lake, Michelle O'Keefe hit a three-run homer for the Wolves (6-2) in an FVC crossover loss. 

Cary-Grove 11, Grayslake North 1 (6 inn.): At Cary, Brianne Prank doubled and homered for the Trojans in an FVC crossover win. Also homering for C-G (5-2) were Grace Pitz and Sarah Purpura. 

BOYS TENNIS

Crystal Lake South 5, Hampshire 2: At Hampshire, Chad Randolph won at No. 2 singles for the Gators (3-1) in an FVC crossover win. 

Elisha Hougland at No. 1 singles and Chad West and Jake Dahlberg at No. 1 doubles won for the Whip-Purs (2-2). 

Crystal Lake Central 6, Woodstock 1: At Crystal Lake, Josh Pudlo won at No. 1 singles for the Tigers (2-1, 10 FVC Fox) in an FVC Fox Division win. 

Dillon Nerland and Ino Gonzales won at No. 4 doubles for the Blue Streaks (3-4, 0-3).

Grayslake Central 7, Johnsburg 0: At Grayslake, the Rams' John Knight and Richard Hutchins defeated Joe Nikolai and Christ Schmidt, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, at No. 1 doubles in an FVC Fox Division win against the Skyhawks (1-4, 0-2). 

Huntley 6, Dundee-Crown 1: At Carpentersville, Matt Frederick and Jake Grabner won at No. 1 doubles for the Red Raiders (2-3, 1-0 FVC Valley) in an FVC Valley Division win. 

Colin Stiefer won at No. 1 singles for the Chargers (4-6, 0-2).

Prairie Ridge 7, Woodstock North 0: At Woodstock, the Wolves blanked the Thunder in an FVC crossover win.
