Marengo police warn of phone scam

Published: Thursday, April 24, 2014 4:59 p.m. CDT

MARENGO – The Marengo Police Department is alerting area residents to a possible telephone scam.

During the scam, a caller presents as a ComEd representative and asks for account information, according to a Nixle alert from the department.

ComEd has been contacted and is looking into the scam, as are Marengo police, according to the alert.

Police urge residents to verify who they're speaking with before giving information over the phone. Residents should ask for the caller's information, name, employee number and a call back number, the alert said.
