Reduce size of government

To the Editor

I believe we are eventually heading for Armageddon if federal and state governments do not scale back in relation to the size of the population, especially in Illinois.

Democrats and Republicans must agree on reducing the size of these governments, and I mean in all areas, unless either party has something to hide.

What’s happening now is that when either party is voted in, they bring their friends, relatives, backers, etc., into the government. This guarantees the politician votes to stay in office and receive all of the juicy benefits. We finally could end up with people not qualified to run a government, and the taxpayers foot the bill.

My suggestion is to limit all of the various governments to a percentage of the total population. I don’t know what the percentage is now, but as an example, the following suggestions may be considered:

In the first year, with 350,000,000 population, 20 percent are in government, or 70,000,000 persons. In the second year, all sections of government must reduce personnel by 1 percent or 2 percent. In the third year, the same as above – 1 percent or 2 percent – until the perfect quantity is accomplished.

The reductions can be through retirement, deaths, last in first out, incompetence, jailed politicians, etc. Just a suggestion.
