SPRINGFIELD – Gov. Pat Quinn has named a permanent director to lead the Department of Children and Family Services.

The Democratic governor promoted interim director Bobbie Gregg to a permanent post Tuesday as head of the state’s child welfare agency. Before serving as interim director, she was a deputy chief for DCFS. She has also served as an assistant attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice.

Gregg is the fourth agency director since 2013.

Arthur Bishop resigned from the helm of the agency in February following reports of previous legal problems at a social services agency in Chicago. Bishop pleaded guilty stealing to money from clients almost two decades ago, but later denied the allegations.

Quinn says Gregg’s legal and administrative experience will help her lead the agency at a critical time.
