LAKE IN THE HILLS – An account for the planned Veterans Memorial has been set up at Castle Bank.

People who wish to donate to the fund can go to either branch in the village. There will be tables set up with forms for people to fill out and give to branch tellers, said Brenda Bono, the branch manager for both Castle Bank locations in the village.

"We are one of those [organizations] that like to be in the community and want to participate in community events," Bono said.

Castle Bank also plans to contribute $10,000 toward the project, Bono said.

Bono added the bank plans to present a check to the village on May 22 for the project.

"We think it's important," Bono said. "It's a veterans memorial. It will be a nice addition to the village [to] have that there."

The village has set aside $40,000 in its budget this year to help get the project off the ground.

Village Trustee Russ Ruzanski has said $150,000 is needed to complete the first phase of the project.

The memorial will include a brick walking path around the Village Hall and a curved wall, with five granite pieces representing different branches of military service.

Veterans memorial committee members also plan to sell bricks and benches for people to memorialize specific veterans, Ruzanski has said.
