Ball: Cary Grove Area Chamber forms government affairs committee

Published: Friday, May 9, 2014 5:30 a.m. CDT

The Cary Grove Area Chamber of Commerce announced recently the formation of a government affairs committee.

The committee was announced at the April meeting of the chamber’s board of directors and will be headed by Sumish Parikh, owner of several area Dunkin’ Donuts and Dunkin’ Donuts/Baskin Robbins locations.

While the chamber generally has enjoyed positive relationships with its local, state and federal legislators, it has not formally had a group of members consider policy and the economic conditions required to keep Cary and Fox River Grove positive business environments.

“This is not a committee for partisan politics,” Parikh said. “Our mission is to provide guidance to our elected representatives and foster relationships so that our members have a conduit to the legislative group.”

Legislative and policy advocacy on behalf of the membership and local businesses is not a new service a local chamber of commerce provides. In fact, many would say it is a fundamental function of the organization’s existence.

The Cary Grove Area Chamber is dedicated to making the impact of its government affairs committee a value to its membership and the entire business community within its service area.
