Severe thunderstorm watch extended to 11 p.m.

McHenry County is under a severe thunderstorm watch until 11 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Weather hazards could include: wind gusts over 60 miles per hour, hail up to the size of a quarter, torrential downpours and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning.

Widely scattered thunderstorms are possible area-wide throughout the day today, with increased chances across north central Illinois after 7 p.m. into the overnight, according to the NWS.

A severe thunderstorm watch was sent out Monday morning and originally was set to expire at 5 p.m.
