MARENGO – Two patients were airlifted and two more taken to the hospital via ambulance after a one-car accident in Marengo, an official said.

Marengo authorities were called to an accident at 4:06 p.m. Sunday on Deerpass Road, about a half mile north of Route 176, Marengo Police Sgt. Rodney Riley said.

It appears the northbound vehicle left the roadway, reentered and flipped over for unknown reasons, Riley said. The accident remains under investigation.

Alcohol or speed do not appear to be a factor at this point, Riley said.

The driver was airlifted to Rockford Memorial Hospital and a passenger was airlifted to St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. Both of the other passengers were taken to Centegra Hospital – Woodstock.

Conditions of the patients were unknown Sunday night and authorities weren’t yet releasing the names of those involved.

Crews closed Deerpass from Route 176 to River Road during the accident. It was reopened just after 8:30 p.m., according to a Nixle alert from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.

Marengo crews were assisted by the McHenry County Accident Investigation Team.
