CRYSTAL LAKE – Xtreme Nutrition & Smoothies is seeking a grant worth up to $10,000 from the city to open at 6312 Route 14, unit 222, adjacent to Charter Fitness.

The business would have some retail merchandise, but it primarily would sell nutritional supplements and make fresh smoothies, according to documents provided to the Crystal Lake City Council. It plans to cater to people interested in healthy lifestyles.

If approved by the City Council, the grant would pay for furniture, fixtures, equipment and employees under the city’s Retailer Job Creation and Investment Program. The city has budgeted $80,000 for the program for fiscal 2014-15. The program was created in 2011.

Xtreme Nutrition & Smoothies plans to spend about $17,000 on new furniture, fixtures and equipment. It will hire one full-time employee.

The City Council is expected to vote on the proposal at its meeting Tuesday night.
