Sold us out

To the Editor:

Always the same analysis on gas price increases: demand, cost of crude, summer blends, etc.

Our government, Republicans and Democrats, provide the oil industry $4 billion in taxpayer-financed subsidies, which is about the same as the food stamp program cost that the politicians want to reduce.

The U.S. is a net exporter of oil and, yet, we the taxpayers pay for the huge profits these oil companies reap. Profit is a great thing and the cornerstone of capitalism so long as the profit is not financed by taxpayers. But, of course, the politicians will not reduce the oil subsidies because they would lose revenue and votes they get from big oil.

Increases based on demand, cost of crude, summer blends, bah! The price of gas is political and our government sold us out to big oil.
