FOX RIVER GROVE – Jewel-Osco plans to unveil its new store on Northwest Highway on Tuesday evening.
The "gala" will be open to the public. According to the news release, people will be able to shop during the event.
The first full-day the store will be open for business is Wednesday, according to a company news release.
In March, Jewel bought the 800 Northwest Highway location from Dominick's parent company Safeway, after the company opted to leave the Chicago market at the end of 2013.
Two locations in Chicago and one location in Merionette Park and in Lake Zurich also were acquired. The exact price of the purchase was not disclosed.
Jewel late last year also bought four Chicago-area Dominick's locations. The company is investing $100 million into new projects and remodels this year.
The opening of the new Jewels also coincides with the renovations of 14 other Jewel-Osco locations in the Chicago area. It is part of a new format for the grocery chain of fresher and higher quality products.
In online postings by the company, the Fox River Grove Jewel will have a hot foods bar with a variety of snacks.
McHenry County still has two vacant Dominick's properties. One location is in Lake in the Hills at the northeast corner of Randall and Algonquin roads. The other is along Route 14 in Crystal Lake.
