McHENRY – A McHenry man was arrested Wednesday for unlawful failure to register as a sex offender after reportedly unzipping his pants while approaching a parent and child, the McHenry County Sheriff's office said in a news release.

Juan Morales, 23, was arrested and charged with unlawful failure to register as a sex offender, a Class 3 felony, and for residing within 500 feet of a day care facility as a sex offender, a Class 4 felony.

Sheriff's deputies responded around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday to a call of a suspicious male, later identified as Morales, unzipping his pants at a bus stop.

The caller was waiting with her child for a bus to summer school. Morales approached the caller and child, then unzipped his pants, the release said.

During the investigation, deputies learned Morales was registered as homeless with the Fox Lake Police Department, but had been living at the address of 2702 Baldwin Road in McHenry. He did not notify the proper authorities of his living situation, which put him within 500 feet of a children's day care facility.

Morales is being held at the McHenry County Adult Correctional Facility and was slated to attend bond court Thursday morning.
