At least 3 boaters missing after Cal-Sag collision

PALOS HILLS – Coast Guard officials say they're searching for at least three people in the Cal-Sag Channel in suburban Chicago after a collision late Friday.

Authorities said a 66-foot vessel with a cargo of six barges collided with a 19-foot pleasure boat near Palos Hills.

WLS-TV reported people in the area heard loud noises on the river around 11 p.m. and called police.

Sgt. Jeff Crowley of the Palos Heights Police Department says the first rescuers to arrive could see a small pleasure boat capsized but no people in the water.

The Coast Guard says it's sent a 25-foot response boat. A helicopter went to the scene, but fog kept aircrews from seeing anything. Local police and fire crews are also helping with the search.
