Wearing flag bad taste

Published: Wednesday, June 25, 2014 5:30 a.m. CDT

To the Editor:

While I understand the American flag is a symbol for our country and not any kind of sacred item, it was still distressing last week to see the Northwest Herald picture of a man exiting The Cottage wrapped in an American flag – apparently celebrating the World Cup soccer win over Ghana.

This person disrespectfully wrapping themselves in a flag over something as frivolous as a soccer game is bad enough, but the Northwest Herald might have used better judgment in publishing this picture.

I get that our military is fighting for the right of this person to do that, but just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should do it, particularly given the precipice we are currently standing on in the Middle East and the fact more of our men and women will surely be losing their lives.
