Kid-centric programming explores animals of land, water

WOODSTOCK – Snakes, hawks and the creatures dwelling in ponds and creeks will be discovered in upcoming McHenry County Conservation District programming.

The events require prior registration and include:

• Dip and Drip: 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday July 12, at Fel-Pro RRR Conservation Area's east entrance, 1520 Crystal Lake Road, Cary. Kids and families, ages 6 and up, will explore the park's pond and creek and use dip nets to catch and release aquatic creatures. All equipment is provided. Attendees should wear clothes that can get wet and dirty. The program is free for county residents and $5 for non-residents. The deadline to register is July 8.

• Super Snakes: 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, at Coral Woods Conservation Area, 7400 Somerset Drive, Marengo. Kids 6 to 12 years old will search the fields and forests of Coral Woods for snakes and learn about the lives and behaviors of local snakes. The program is free for county residents and $5 for non-residents. The deadline to register is July 11.

• Creature Features – Red-tailed Hawk: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, at Prairieview Education Center, 2112 Behan Road, Crystal Lake. The visiting creature at this month's Creature Features will be a red-tailed hawk. Kids five to seven years old will enjoy three hours filled with games, activities and crafts all based on this visitor. A snack is provided. Dress appropriately for the weather and wear good walking shoes. The program costs $6 for county residents and $8 for non-residents. The deadline to register is July 12.
