Three races to be held in McHenry

McHENRY – Three races will have Fiesta Day attendees running, walking and rolling along on Big Wheel tricycles.

The three events are held by the McHenry Parks and Recreation Department during the annual celebration.

The River Run, which is open to all ages, is set for Saturday, July 12, with the Big Wheels Race to follow on Monday, July 14, and the open track meet on Wednesday, July 16.

Check-in for the River Run is from 6:30 to 7:45 a.m. at McHenry High School East Campus, 1012 N. Green St. in McHenry. The 5K run/walk begins at 8 a.m., and the 10K run begins at 8:15 a.m.

Each race has a new route this year.

Online registration and pre-registration forms are due by July 10. The pre-registration cost is $15, and same-day registration costs $20. The fee includes a Tek shirt as long supplies last.

The Big Wheels Race is open to children ages 3 to 5 and will be held at the Petersen Park east parking lot, 4300 W. Petersen Park Road.

Check-in is from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m., and races begin at 6:30 p.m. Children will ride their all-plastic big wheels to compete for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies by in each age and gender category. The cost is $5 a child, both pre-registration and same-day.

The Open Track Meet is open to children ages 6 to 14 and will be held at McCracken Field, 3712 Kane Ave.

Check-in is from 5 to 5:15 p.m., and events begin at 5:15 p.m.

Children will compete for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place ribbons for running and field events in each age and gender category.

The cost is $10 a child.

Pre-registration is accepted for all events in person, by mail, online or by fax at the McHenry Parks and Recreation Department office, 333 S. Green St. in McHenry.
