Flood strands motorists headed to O'Hare Airport

CHICAGO – Authorities have shut all but a single lane of traffic on the busy expressway heading into O'Hare International Airport because of standing water left behind by overnight storms.

Some desperate air travelers were getting out of cars Tuesday morning and hauling their luggage the rest of the way.

Vehicles heading into the airport were only being allowed to pass one at a time under the Mannheim Road viaduct on Interstate 190.

The near-shutdown has caused a massive backup on the Kennedy Expressway heading west out of Chicago.

WMAQ-TV reports that snow plows are being brought in to clear the remaining water under the viaduct.

The outbound lanes, meanwhile, reopened after crews pumped water off the roadway.
