To the Editor:
It is truly outrageous that County Board members Ken Koehler, Nick Provenzano and John Jung voted to deny the citizens of McHenry County the right to weigh in on whether we should reduce the size of our county board, but it is far from unexpected.
These three men also were the masterminds of gerrymandering board districts that ensured their last re-election bids. The attorney general found that all three knowingly violated the Open Meetings Act while scheming to pick their constituents, when in a healthy democracy, it is the voters who pick their representatives. After breaking the law, they even were endorsed by the Northwest Herald.
It is time that these men be held accountable by the voters. No longer should we allow career politicians who break the law for their benefit to remain in office. The damage they do to our county is unquestionable.
We will never have open, transparent and accountable government as long as Koehler, Provenzano and Jung sit on the board.
