CRYSTAL LAKE – Three people were sent to the hospital Saturday morning after a crash just west of the Route 176 and Route 14 intersection, the police department said in a news release.

About 10:10 a.m. police and fire rescue were called to the intersection after a 1996 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Donald Mecko, 73, of Palatine, who was going west on Route 176, collided with a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Zandra Iandola, 20, of McHenry, according to the news release.

Iandola had just exited a private drive on the north side of Route 176 onto the road, the news release said.

After the collision, the Blazer rolled onto its passenger side and came to a rest in the center of the road.

Mecko, Iandola and her passenger Kayla Brehmer, 23, of McHenry, were taken to Centegra Hospital-Woodstock.

Iandola and Brehmer were treated and released, and Mecko is in fair condition, said Centegra Senior Public Relations Coordinator Michelle Green.

Traffic was diverted at the intersection for about two hours as crews investigated and cleared the scene.

The incident is under investigation. No citations have been issued, but are anticipated, police said.
