Published: Wednesday, July 23, 2014 8:32 a.m. CDT

UNION – Classic songs, geography and spelling lessons and passages from turn-of-the-century books will make up a one-room schoolhouse experience.

Children ages 8 to 12 are invited to participate in the program, which will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 27, at the McHenry County Historical Society's West Harmony School. Parents can also attend.

The 1895 schoolhouse is located at the Union museum campus, which is located at 6422 Main St.

The program will make every effort to follow customs of the day, including lining their own paper. Students can dress the part if they wish and use student desks. Other seating is also available and the school is handicapped accessible.

The cost is $10 and includes admission to the museum, which is open 1 to 4 p.m. that day.

Registration is available online at www.gothistory.org or by calling the museum office at 815-923-2267.
