Traffic on I-90 near Elgin has been significantly slowed due to a vehicle fire that has since been extinguished, according to the Illinois State Police.

Reports of a minivan with visible flames showing came in around 11:37 a.m., said Master Sgt. Thomas Gartner of the state police.

Gartner said the Elgin Fire Department responded to the incident, which occurred at milepost 48, so about one mile east of Route 47.

Eastbound and westbound traffic was held while the fire was being extinguished.

While the lanes had been reopened as of noon, Gartner said traffic continues to move very slowly.
