CARPENTERSVILLE – A small structure fire broke out Monday night at a Carpentersville home, possibly as a result of lightning strike, the Carpentersville Fire Department said.

The department responded around 8 p.m. to a fire at a residence on the 800 block of Greenwood Avenue, Battalion Chief Todd Middendorf said.

Firefighters arrived to find a small fire in the roof and attic area, Middendorf said.

The homeowners were evacuated from the two-story residence upon responders' arrival, he said, adding there were no injuries.

The fire, which was under control within about 20 minutes, left minor roof and ceiling damage. However, the residence was turned back over to the homeowners once the scene was cleared.

The West Dundee Fire Department and the East Dundee Fire District assisted in the incident.
