LAKE IN THE HILLS – There were no injuries reported after a vehicle was driven off Rakow Road and down onto the lake shore, east of Virginia Road.

A call came in around 6:45 a.m. Tuesday for an incident involving a vehicle in the Three Oaks Recreation Area lake, Lake in the Hills Police Sgt. Don Fowler said.

The incident occurred in the eastbound lane of Rakow Road between Virginia Road and Route 31. Upon arrival, responders found it was not a water rescue as the sole occupant of the vehicle had removed herself from the car, Fowler said.

“We had a 17-year-old Port Barrington female who changed lanes and wasn’t clear to do so, so she lost control and went over the embankment on Rakow,” Fowler said. “The car did go into the water partially, but she’s fine. There was no transport.”

The driver, whose identity was not disclosed because she is a minor, was cited for improper lane usage, Fowler said.

Responders from the Crystal Lake Police Department, Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department and Lake in the Hills Police Department were at the scene.
