McHENRY – A group will take on the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge at a McHenry church Sunday.

The event will put a local spin on the viral phenomenon, encouraging its participants to donate to the Skokie-based nonprofit, the Les Turner ALS Foundation, in addition to getting a bucket full of ice water dumped on them.

The group provides patient services, funds research and spreads awareness for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, which is better known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease, as well as other motor neuron diseases.

The challenge will be at 1:45 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot of Holy Apostles Church, 5211 Bull Valley Road, McHenry.

Participants should bring their own bucket, bag of ice and a towel. Water will be supplied.

Donations can be made by clicking the "Donate Now" button at the foundation's website, www.lesturnerals.org. Forms will also be available at the event.
