Not based on reality

To the Editor:

I’m begging you to reconsider the majority of articles written by one of your frequent contributors, Cal Thomas.

In his latest column (“If ISIS attacks again, what will U.S. do?” Aug. 27), he accuses Muslim groups of preaching and planning extreme hatred and violence toward Americans within our own borders, yet with no evidence to back it up.

He asks, “What are we going to do about these people building mosques and preaching hatred?” Well, first, please visit one of these services and give me a direct quote of a Muslim preaching hatred and terrorism. Secondly, it is their constitutional right to practice free religion and build their religious institutions. If they are angry, I understand why – maybe one of their children was killed in a civilian air strike by the U.S. Does that mean they are going to blow up the next skyscraper? No. It is completely within their rights to be angry and to speak out.

Furthermore, he claims the Muslim population is “exploding” in Europe and their youth are being taught to hate Western idealogies. Maybe he’s referring to their history lesson about the several Christian persecutions of innocent Muslim people in the past?

Every article Mr. Thomas writes about Muslims is fascist and fear-mongering with few examples based on reality. For such an extreme conservative, I can’t believe his blatant disregard for the constitutional right of Americans to live regardless of their religion.

Cal Thomas, please shut up and stop trying to be the boogey-man.
